Design a lawn sprinkler system to water the lawn of a residence with a water supply designated below, using the sprinklers described.

The pressure at the water source is 60psi.

The maximum flow rate is 3 gallons/min at the source.

Each of the sprinklers to be used has the following properties:

It produces 1/2" of water evenly distributed over a square area 10'x10' in one hour, when used at 60psi.

Assume that this whole system is linear, so that, if the pressure on a sprinkler is halved, the area covered (as well as the flow rate) will be halved. This is true until the pressure is reduced below 20psi, at which it does not work at all.

Each sprinler has only one input orfice, so that it must be installed at te end of a pipe or hose.

1. Find the maximum area you can cover with 1/2" of water in one hour, using this source and these sprinklers.

2. Find the number of sprinklers needed to accomplish this.
