You have just been appointed Special Adviser to the President (or Dictator) of Country X (the country you chose).

The President –your boss—has a problem.  He lives in the capital city, surrounded by “yes-men” and “yes-women,” who say, “Yes, everything is fine.  You can do whatever you want.”

He hires you as a reality check on the socio-economic situation.  You don’t have much time or money for this assignment, so you must rely on the statistics from official sources and that are on-line or in the University Library.

Below are the questions and the sources that hold the answers. You must fill out the questionnaire, using the data you find in the site indicated.  If you cannot find it there, then please indicate what OTHER site you used.

At the end, write at least two paragraphs on the following:

1. What have you learned about the country that surprises you most compared to the “usual” encyclopedia  portrait? How do your findings confirm or contradict the image that Country X projects to the world?

2. What would you tell the President – who wants only the truth from you—that no one else would dare say?
