Introduction: Many organizations downplay the importance of a decision support system (DSS) because they have tried to implement a DSS unsuccessfully by acquiring a software package without first performing some analysis of the current business issues. A DSS is not about acquiring and installing a software package to solve the business problems; organization must gain familiarity with the important concepts as they relate to decision making. Business intelligence (BI) is a broad field and each organization has its viewpoints on how best to implement a BI solution to meet its requirements.
