Assessment tool used is biopsychosocial-spiritual assessment

Problem:

Describe another improvement your colleague could make to the assessment tool. At my field placement, the primary assessment tool used is the Biopsychosocial-Spiritual Assessment completed during intake. This tool is similar to the assessments described by Poulin et al. (2024) and Ward et al. (2025) because it gathers information about a client's physical, emotional, social, and environmental circumstances to guide service planning. One strength of the BPSA is the holistic approach. It helps social workers understand clients from a person-in-environment perspective and identify both strengths and challenges that may impact well-being (Poulin et al., 2024). The assessment also supports individualized treatment planning by collecting information across multiple life domains. One improvement I would make is adding more questions about clients' experiences with discrimination, cultural identity, and systemic barriers. This would provide a deeper understanding of factors that affect client outcomes and support more culturally responsive practice. I would also increase opportunities for clients to identify their own priorities during the assessment process. The BPSA reflects diversity, equity, and inclusion principles by considering cultural, family, and spiritual influences on clients' lives. However, incorporating more direct exploration of racism and systemic inequities would strengthen its alignment with anti-racist social work practice and social justice values. Need Assignment Help?
