Organizational and leadership assessment and analysis is a fundamental process that public administration leaders use to gather information, assess needs, and plan actions. In this assignment, you will build upon some of your previous coursework by analyzing your chosen public sector organization in terms of its organizational structure, current management, and leadership theories in use. You will evaluate the effectiveness of these theories, identify some key concerns, and provide some strategies for improvement for your organization.
The assignment is divided into three parts. Part I concerns the organizational structure and management theories and processes in use. The bulk of this section will come from your Unit 3 assignment and will provide a review of your original findings. Part II examines the leadership theories and practices being used in this organization and your evaluation of their effectiveness. In addition, you will examine what this organization might look like with a different type of leadership theory or practices in place. Part III concludes the analysis with the identification of some areas of concern related to leadership, and a plan for improvement.
Part I: Organizational Management Assessment:
Assess the organizational structure and management theories being used in your organization. State whether these approaches are appropriate for the current situation, and include your rationale.
This should be a summary of your findings from the Unit 3 paper and does not need to be the entire paper.
Part II: Leadership Evaluation:
Examine the current leadership theories and styles being used by leadership in this organization.
Determine if this approach is appropriate for the current situation for this organization.
Evaluate and discuss the possible need for a different type of leadership that could be used. Identify another type of leadership that might be used at your organization and describe what this might look like, whether you feel it would be more effective, and any potential issues or concerns noted.
Part III: Strategies for Improvement:
Use the SWOT analysis template to determine the current state of your organization, identifying at least one issue per section. Discuss your findings and elaborate on strategies for improvement of one of your identified areas of concern from either the Threats or Weaknesses sections. Support your argument with citations and references from the literature.
Conclusion: Summarize the key points in each of the three parts of your paper, including citations for supporting literature.
References: Should be in correct APA format.
Appendix: Include the SWOT analysis you completed and any additional tools you may have found useful in your organizational analysis.
Your final paper should be a minimum of 2,300 words, using correct APA style and formatting including citations, a minimum of 17 to 20 references, with at least 15 of your references coming from peer-reviewed sources. This assignment will be submitted to your instructor as a Word attachment and will also be included in your e-portfolio.
To achieve a successful project experience and outcome, you are expected to meet the below requirements for each of the project components.
Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
APA formatting: A minimum of 17 to 20 resources (with a minimum of 15 resources from peer-reviewed sources. Citations must be formatted according to APA (5th Edition) style and formatting. You may also refer to the interactive APA Refresher. Include APA subheadings.
Length of paper: A minimum of 2,300 words with double-spaced pages.
Font and font size: Arial 12 point.
