Problem: Write a 75 word response to how beneficial this was- Reflecting on the topics and ideas presented by philosophers in psychology, one concept that resonated with me during this week's reading was John Locke's perspective. I agree with Locke's assertion that humans are born without innate knowledge. Throughout my studies and work, I have learned that individuals are particularly malleable at birth. As we grow, we continue to acquire knowledge, experiences, and insights, learning from each encounter. Locke classified human experiences into two categories: sensations and reflections. Sensations refer to our interpretations of physical objects in the environment, while reflections pertain to our ability to recall those stimuli (Schultz & Schultz, 2015). The text also discusses the concept of association, which is a term I frequently use in my work. This concept focuses on how an individual associates a stimulus and the impact that association can have on them. I feel like Locke helped answer the question for how human interpret experiences and how that experience mold us to who we are as individuals. For example, someone struggling with PTSD after a car accident may have begun to associate cars with those traumatic events. This illustrates the relationship between the experience of the accident and the simple idea of riding in a car, as well as the complex notion that it could lead to a dangerous situation.
