Shared Activity

Required

Leading Health Improvement

As the need for public health systems grows and changes throughout the world, an imperative need exists to improve those systems. Because of this, health care services must undergo evaluation in order to find gaps and opportunities for enhancement.

What makes for an effective evaluation of health care services? A measurement of its performance and impact in meeting the needs of patients can give some information. Population needs vary from region to region, so it is prudent to compare different evaluation approaches in order to establish appropriate measurements for your own health care organisation. In this Shared Activity, you will compare two methods for health care evaluation and then share your thoughts on new potential approaches derived from your comparison.

To complete this Shared Activity:

Create a discussion post in which you address the following:

Analyse two existing approaches to performance and impact evaluation measures for health care services from the same region.

Describe how each approach measures public health care impact.

Compare the approaches in terms of their advantages and disadvantages.

Based on your comparison, recommend a method for evaluating health care services in your own region. Justify why this method will be effective compared to the two approaches you described.

Review your fellow colleagues’ postings and post a response to at least two of your colleagues’ comments. Your response post should address the following:

Recommend a different evaluation method for your colleagues’ approaches.

Support any claims you make.

Individual Assignment

Required

Evaluating Health Improvement

Throughout this module, you analysed, planned and evaluated the various aspects of public health leadership. You have begun preparing yourself to tackle the challenges of management from a leader’s perspective.

Before you can begin to take effective action, you will need to determine what your specific goals are and how you plan to achieve them. For this Individual Assignment, consider the goals of leading quality improvement and providing incentive for employee performance. To accomplish these goals, you will need to examine ‘total quality management’ and discern ways to improve health service delivery to patients. You will also need to help develop a culture of on-going improvement towards the satisfaction of patients. Additionally, you must find ways to encourage employee efforts by providing incentives for reaching their goals.

To complete this Individual Assignment:

Submit a paper in which you address the following:

Summarise a public health organisation and the population it serves.

Identify the needs of the population it serves.

Determine what steps you would take to cultivate total quality management and develop a culture of on-going improvement.

Identify ways that you will incentivise employee performance. Evaluate your incentives in terms of motivational effectiveness. You should support your claims on effectiveness using research from the unit readings or your own sources.

You should fully state and justify any choices or assumptions that you make using the suggested readings for this unit as well as your own research. Include references to any sources you have used. All sources should be cited using Harvard Referencing Style.
