armature core and armature winding armature

Armature core and armature winding

Armature is the rotating part of the machine. It is cylindrical in shape with slots on its outer periphery. It houses the armature conductors and causes them to rotate in the magnetic ?eld. Armature core is made up of steel laminations to decrease eddy current loss and is mounted on a shaft.

The air gap among armature and ?eld poles is kept very small to minimize the reluctance of magnetic circuit. The armature windings are placed in the slots which are on the periphery of laminated armature. There are two parts of armature winding- wave and lap windings.
