Directions: In a thoughtful essay, please respond to one of the following topics:
1. Consider the difference between killing game that you consume and buying meat in a grocery store or supermarket. Is one act more ethical than the other? Compose an argumentative essay that takes a stance in support of one side of this issue. Use one short quote from Rick Bass's "Why I Hunt" as one means of development and support in your essay.
2. Agree or disagree with the proposition that our national water supply is safe. Use one short quote from Joy Horowitz's "Parkinson's Alley" as one means of development and support in your essay.
3. Argue for or against the proposition that you can learn profound truths about yourself and the world by immersing yourself in nature. Use one short quote from Barry Lopez's "Children in the Woods" as one means of development and support in your essay.
4. Argue for or against the premise that humanity's greed has caused an imbalance in nature as to threaten the planet's survival.
Your essay must contain the following:
a minimum of 750 words, but no more than a 1,000
a coherent and cohesive thesis
a sufficient number of developed body paragraphs rich with concrete examples
an introductory and a concluding paragraph
a proper use of MLA formatting and documentation, including a Works Cited page. The Works Cited page will include the essay(s) from The McGraw-Hill Reader as well as any other source materials included in the essay
an absence of grammatical errors, including spelling and punctuation.
