The American "laboratory of democracy" combines a relatively slow-moving federal policy with more nimble, (and often far different) state policy and rights approaches. Are you comfortable with a state by state approach to ethical issues like the death penalty, gun ownership, local taxes, and voting rights? Do any of these (or other big ethical questions) represent capital R reasons per Blackburn's use?
