Q1. Are Vegan diets more healthful than diets with animal-derived foods? Explain. Pros/Cons of the Vegan diet? Do Vegans get all of their nutrient and protein needs? How? Explain/Discuss; also look at complementary Amino acids/Proteins and foods that a Vegan could complement so as to get all of the essential amino acids. We have also seen an interest in Atkins and Paleo types of diets, which are high in protein, (around 30+% of total Kcals, usually),  and have more of an emphasis on meat/ protein intake, and less on grains/ carbohydrates. Pros and cons of these diets? Do you think Americans are eating too much or not enough protein? Q2. Hannah- Age 10, is a rather sedentary child and was evaluated as a bit over ideal weight at her last pediatric check-up, up from the year before, She has an opportunity to go to a cool swim camp this summer,  but is worried she might get teased because of her weight and thinks she might not be very good at swimming anyway... so Hannah is not sure she wants to go, even though its sounds like fun and her best friend is going. She thinks another camp focusing on video games might be a better idea. If you were the Parent, would you have her go to the swim camp? Why or why not? How would you approach Hannah's weight issue, or is there one at all? Her best friend, on the other hand, has been evaluated as underweight for her age and is a picky eater. What food and nutrition ideas, strategies and activity recommendations might you suggest/design for each of them?
