Are there any planned activities that will not help them

Read the following excerpt about the city of Greenburg and answer the questions that follow. Use the logic model worksheet in Figure 2.11 to complete this exercise.

The city of Greenburg has a population of 100,000, with another 45,000 people living in rural areas surrounding the city. The outlying areas consist of mainly older, white, poor farming communities. Greenburg itself has a long-standing African American community representing about 10 percent of the population, which has lived there for the last seventy years. Over the last ten years, there has been an influx of relatively young Latino and Asian families moving to the community, who now represent 15 percent of the population. The regional school-age population is about 55 percent youth of color, including approximately 10 percent for whom English is their second language.
pproximately 10 percent for whom English is their second language. Greenburg has historically experienced low rates of property and violent crime, but one weekend six months ago, five teens were killed with firearms. Following these tragedies, the Greenburg Youth Service Agency (GYSA) was barraged with phone calls from people expressing outrage and seeking answers. In response, the GYSA sponsored two community meetings with the goal of harnessing residents' energy and emotions into positive action. The group has been meeting at a local recreation center that has historically served youth under age thirteen years. At the second of these sessions, the concept for the Greenburg Coalition for Peace unfolded with the vision to reduce violence and build safe homes and peaceful communities. The mission of the Coalition is to prevent violence by strengthening and empowering families, communities, and neighborhoods and encouraging community pride and involvement through education, community organizing, development, and revitalization. The Coalition has met once a month for six months, with most of the major sectors of the community involved. Those members who have been especially active include the school resource officer, a parent of one of the victims, and a youth worker who knew two of the victims. Activities considered so far in meetings have included improving the quality of public housing; opening recreation center activities to youth thirteen to eighteen, including their arts-and-crafts and dance classes, as well as offering access to the gym; working with police to clean up crime "hot spots"; and helping residents establish neighborhood associations. Also during this time, Greenburg Community College was awarded a federal grant to address youth violence, and received $50,000 to plan a youth violence prevention program. One of the requirements of the grant is to create a logic model of the new program and to generate some ideas based on that logic model about how it might be evaluated.
Given this overview, build a logic model that represents this Coalition. After you have completed the model, answer the following questions:

a. Are there any planned activities that will not help them achieve their goals?

b. Are there other programs, activities, or interventions needed to achieve their goals?

c. How could the logic model be used to develop an evaluation?
