Setting in a novel case refers to where a scene occurs. The setting and time of every novel is very important. This will help the reader to at least build an imagery of the same or visualize according to the setting where the same novel or any other reading is based. The reader can figure out the culture according to where the characters lived. The writer of the Dracula does it very well to give the reader a real vision of the novel (Haahr, 2015). Time and setting and time period of Dracula is very important in this case. The setting of the novel in this case varies from one place to another. The characters travel or move from one place to another or one part of the country to another, city to city but it is mainly based in the European continent. This takes place at a remarkable speed. The novel starts in Transylvania which is in south-eastern Europe (Haahr, 2015). The setting changes from there to Whitby which is the modern day Yorkshire coast of Great Britain. From this setting, the rest of the occasions seem to revolve in and around London. London is the capital of the Great Britain. Time setting is also very important in every novel as it helps the reader create imagery of what happens and the culture according to the time frame. The occasions or time setting of the Dracula is in 1897. In this time, the great city of London acted as the British Empire's centre. London at this time was one of the largest cities in the world or else the globe (Burger, 2013).

These are great points about the setting. Let's consider...Bram Stoker was born in Ireland but fell into British literary circles when he moved to London to manage a friend's theatre. While there, he became good friends with such other notable writers as Oscar Wilde (The Picture of Dorian Gray) and Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes). Are there any indications within Bram Stoker's Dracula which tell us about his connections with London and the people there? Are there any indications that his characters resemble to fantastic like Dorian or the intelligent mysteries of Sherlock Holmes?

Kelly,

I would have to agree that once we get past the first few chapters that were completely dedicated to Jonathon Harker's journal, we start to experience setting changes that take place multiple times within each chapter. Stoker does an excellent job with setting the stage with exceptional descriptions for each new location (or revisited location). During one moment, we are in London, in the next we are on the ship, in another we are within the cell of an insane asylum, and then we are in a convent. What were your thoughts about the wedding that took place in the setting of the convent and was Mina doing this in an attempt to gain her Jonathon back from the mental breakdown faster?
