Appropriate hypotheses using the p-value approach

A study conducted last year indicated that adults spend average of 14 hours on household chores throughout the weekend. A research group wishes to find out if the average hours spent on household chores throughout the weekend this year is different from the 14 hours of last year. Consequently, the research group chooses a random sample of 64 adults and finds out the mean hours spent on household chores throughout the weekend to be 15.05 hours. The population standard deviation is known to be 3.0 hours.

a) Devise and test the appropriate hypotheses using the p-value approach. Determine the p-value of the test? Would you reject the null hypothesis at a=0.01?

b) Would you reject null hypothesis at a=0.001? What would be your conclusion?

c) How strong is the evidence against Ho?
