This paper serves as a historiographical approach to the use of torture during the Algerian decolonisation. The paper should provide the different approaches, theses and trends that appear in different historians’ articles and perspectives. It is not just mere recitation and rewording of the series of events that took place. It is more of assembling and gathering the different approaches by different sources (a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15) to provide for general trends that have existed throughout the literature.
The introduction should serve as an introduction (very well obvious to the paper), state its purpose, content and briefly state the outline of the paper.
The development should consist of subsections that provide for the different emerging trends in the literature. For example, this issue has been written differently by different French, American and Arab authors and they respectively provide different accounts as to why the use of torture in Algeria took place. An example can be:
I- Historiography by French Historians.
II- Approaches taken by American Historians
III- Trends Among Arab Historians.
This is just an artificial outline, as the outline shall be determined in accordance with the research.
Using the sources, a trend shall be identified either in accordance to the nationalities of the authors, periods of when the source was written, etc.
The conclusion shall conclude the paper but also offer an opening perspective on the issue: how to advance the field forward, how historiography shall take a turn and what issues shall be discussed, elaborated, and even INCORPORATED into the history to account for a more-developed source. In other words, what approaches and changes can be done in order to solve the inconsistencies that are present in the literature and what can be done to provide for a more consistent one?
