One of the places I use statistics most often in my life is actually when playing board games. I'm quite into them, meeting with a group weekly and even attending board game conventions; and while it's certainly a pretty low stakes way to use statistics, it's also pretty rewarding when you push your luck a little after calculating the odds and succeed. Usually the probability that I'm trying to figure out is how large of a pool of successes do I have available versus how large the pool of possible failures is- whether that means that I need to roll specific sides of a die or I need to pull specific cards that hand, or figuring out what possible choices my opponents have with imperfect information.
My specific career doesn't do very much with statistics, as I'm a funeral director and embalmer and usually the goal is to have as few uncertain variables as possible, but I do make some broad non-scientific assumptions of probability like attendance numbers for a funeral based on historical data of people with similar backgrounds, and use that to determine how many staff members I might need. Discussion Post 2:
I would say that I used statistics in my life and career by trying to figure out ways to budget things in my plans like for instance food and fuel. In fact, people uses "entertainment costs to help prepare a person for the likely expenses they will have next month or the month after that" (Brioli et al., 2023). Then some examples of how I have used central tendency measures and probability in my life and career would be the way that I look at women versus men when it comes to trying to figure out what is the best route to go when buying things that is useful versus less useful. I would say for instance my father; he brings his bills to the table and his shredder. From that point on he sits down and write down what bills that are due and when is the next time for them to be due again to keep track of how much money to spend and save in that month. So that he would be able to pay the bills. Also, he does this one day out of the month as well. Also, by watching him made me realize that I need to buy things I need instead of what I want. Lastly, I see myself using statistics in relation to my future career goals as trying to make sure that things are organize and put in order.
