Application: Design of a cavity for given resonant frequencies. A cavity resonator is built from a section of a waveguide with dimensions a = 4.755 cm and b = 2.215 cm by shorting the waveguide with two conducting plates. A rectangular cavity of length d is thus created. The cavity is required to resonate at 5 GHz in the TE101 mode.

(a) Find the length of the shorted section necessary.

(b) What is the dominant mode and what is its resonant frequency?
