There are structures in Intramuros that reflect Hispanization such as the churches. The Convent of San Agustin is an example of a church in Intramuros. In the Philippines, the presence of the Spanish clergy extended until the Pacific War. The Agustinian Recollects had arrived in 1608. The Agustinians were the first established in the Philippines, since the 1570s and they managed the Convent of San Agustin in Intramuros. The San Agustin Church is the oldest stone church in the Philippines. It is a true Spanish baroque treasure with splendiferous interior architecture, decoration and a marvelous high altar. After the war between the Spanish and the Americans, the terms for the American occupation of Manila were prepared in the vestry of the church in 1898. This church is also where the Spanish surrendered to the American forces in the late 19th century, which ended the Spanish rule in the Philippines.
Another example of a church would be the Manila Cathedral. The Manila Cathedral is the ecclesiastical seat of the Archdiocese of Manila. In Spanish colonial times, this was the seat of the Spanish Archbishop of Manila, who ruled over the whole archipelago.
