Analyzing and synthesizing historical evidence

Assignment task:

Discussion: A Solitude of Self Purpose

This discussion furthers your ability to:

Apply appropriate methods of inquiry when analyzing and synthesizing historical evidence and interpretations of United States History since 1900.

Explain the impact of industrialization, urbanization, unionism, immigration, and the intellectual, cultural, racial, gender, and class underpinnings of American society in the late 1890s and early twentieth and twenty-first centuries in the United States.

Interpret primary and secondary sources to be integrated as support in a written analysis of United States History since 1900.

Response Instructions:

You need to paste in your post before you can see your classmates' responses.

Check the discussion rubric to ensure you know the criteria we are basing our responses on.

Read through your classmates' discussion posts as if you are a historian (which you are!) and help them improve on their evidence-based analysis.

Choose three students who have not been responded to yet. In your reply, please do all of the following:

1. Describe what they have done well in this analysis.

2. Add one fact from the textbook reading that supports their analysis and identify where you found it, OR,

3. Add one fact from the primary source that supports their analysis and identify where you found it.

4. Share your own opinion of the primary source that might differ from theirs.

5. Ask questions that further the discussion.

You can identify where you found information by adding in parents some basic information such as (Chap. 3 pg. 27) or (Title of Primary Source, paragraph 4). We are not using formal citations in our course, but we need enough details to find the information ourselves.

Each response should be a minimum of 75 words, although you are encouraged to write more.

Yes, Please feel free to:

Respond to more than three students.

Respond to students who reviewed your writing response.

Share your opinion about others' opinions - respectfully.

*Because I want this class to be focused on these writings and discussions, I do give extra consideration (points as extra credit) for highly supportive, engaged, and constructive discussion participation that exceeds responding to three peers.
