Analyze the assumptions of the manova

Homework

Length: 8 to 10 pages.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this homework, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and guide criteria:

1. Competency 1: Comprehend the theory behind multivariate statistics.

Provide context for the data set including a definition of required variables and scales of measurement.

Articulate a research question, null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis, and alpha level.

2. Competency 2: Analyze data using IBM SPSS.

Apply the appropriate SPSS procedures to check assumptions and generate required output for the selected statistical analysis.

3. Competency 3: Interpret the results of IBM SPSS analysis.

Interpret the statistical output.

4. Competency 4: Apply the results of statistical analyses (your own or others) to your field of interest or career.

Evaluate strengths and limitations of the selected statistical analysis.

5. Competency 5: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the psychological professions.

Demonstrate an academic writing style through well-organized prose that follows homework guidelines.

In this homework, you will use IBM SPSS to conduct a MANOVA using the .sav file provided. You will use the five quiz scores and year as the variables to determine if quiz scores differ with respect to the year of the student. Run the Bonferroni and Tukey post hoc comparison tests. Also include descriptive statistics, estimates of effect size, observed power, parameter estimates, and the appropriate tests of the assumptions. Be sure to consult the Capella Writing Center for guidance.

Instructions

Step I

Provide a context for the data set in the supplied .sav file. Include a definition of the specified variables, levels of each factor, and the outcome variable. Define the corresponding scales of measurement for each variable. Specify the sample size of the data set.

Step II

Specify the research questions related to the MANOVA. Articulate the null hypotheses and alternative hypotheses for main effects and interactions. Specify the alpha level.

Step III

Analyze the assumptions of the MANOVA. Paste the SPSS histogram output for the quiz scores and discuss your visual interpretations. Paste SPSS descriptive statistics output showing skewness and kurtosis values for quiz scores and interpret them (that is, values of 0 are perfectly normal; values between +/- 1 are ideal; values +/- 2 are acceptable; values beyond +/- 2 are a potential violation). Report the results of the Shapiro-Wilk tests and Levene tests and interpret them. Summarize whether or not the assumptions of the MANOVA are met.

Step IV

To provide context, begin by reporting the descriptive statistics for quiz scores by each year. You should also report and discuss them in the narrative.

Next, provide a visual interpretation of the results.

Then paste the SPSS output for the MANOVA. Report the F, degrees of freedom, the F value, the p value, a calculation of effect size, and interpretation of the effect size (calculate and report simple eta squared; do not use partial eta squared from SPSS output).

For each factor, also report SPSS calculations of observed power and interpret them in terms of type II error.

Finally, for each factor interpret the results against the null hypotheses articulated in step II.

Step V: Discuss the conclusions of the MANOVA as it relates to the research questions. Conclude with an analysis of the strengths and limitations of the MANOVA. and a statement about why this test would or would not be better than a simple ANOVA for analyzing this data set.

Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:

1. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the course title, the student's name, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

3. Also include a reference page. The references and Citations should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
