Assignment 1:
After carefully reading the text, including the essays by Rojstaczer and Primack (67-72), pick one of the following questions and respond to it in a posting. Your response should be a minimum of 4 or 5 sentences, and should be posted by the end of the day this coming Sunday (to allow your peers time to respond by Wednesday.) Please pick a question to answer that has not been answered before, until all have been answered at least once.
In your posts, please make specific references to the text to support your observations, citing the page number in parenthesis next to the references.
1. Analyze Rojstaczer's argument in "Grade Inflation Gone Wild." What evidence does Rojstaczer use to indicate that there is a problem?
2. How would you characterize the evidence Rojstaczer uses (for example, scientific, anecdotal), and to what extent are you persuaded by the evidence he provides to suggest that grade inflation has a profound effect on "life and learning"?
3. How does Primack establish that there is a problem? To what extent is his approach as persuasive (or not)as Rojstaczer's?
4. To what extent are you persuaded by the counterargument that Primack introduces?
