Accelerating reliance on the cloud has, in effect, made all Internet-facing organizations international in nature. This is especially true for those firms and government agencies that place increased reliance on the new PAAS/IAAS/SAAS paradigm and cloud storage. These new IT tools hold great promise for more efficient and cost-effective distribution of information, but they also present new risks, given the virtual and borderless nature of the cloud.
Based on the resources and discussions you have completed in Units 9 and 10 of this course, write a paper of at least four pages that addresses the problems posed for information risk mitigation in organizations that increasingly rely on the cloud for information storage, platforms, and processing tools. Focus on an organization, real or hypothetical, that operates internationally with an increasing reliance on the cloud.
• Contrast and compare the risk threats for organizations storing and manipulating information internally with those increasingly storing and processing data in the cloud.
• Analyze the risk of employees of a multinational organization who may live and work in different countries.
• Evaluate differences in the constitution and tasks of risk management teams in international organizations as compared to those in strictly domestic organizations.
• Evaluate tools and resources that can aid cloud-reliant organizations in risk mitigation.
• Analyze the key elements of an effective risk management program in cloud-reliant organizations.
