Analyze passages from the land of spices


Assignment task: Please help me to analyze ONE of the following passages from The Land of Spices, by Kate O'Brien and integrate it into a larger argument that analyzes some major meaning of the text.  (This could include representations of gender; nationalism; Irish identity, whether endorsed or critiqued; etc.)  INCORPORATE AT LEAST FIVE OTHER PASSAGES to corroborate your claims.  Cite DIRECTLY from the text: do NOT paraphrase. Reverend Mother disagreed. "We knew who Molly was when we accepted her. We also knew, from Mr. Redmond's own lips, of her mother's occasional --weakness.  That, you may remember, was the reason why hen sent the child to school when she [Molly] was only eight." [...]  "He pays full fees for his daughter, Mother Eugenia--which, may I be so crude as to point out, is twice as much as Sir Arthur de la Pole does for his." (133).
