When it comes to art, which is the most important: artistic freedom, right of the patron, or appropriate subject matter. Provide a rationale for your response.
Discussion 2:
• "Van Eyck and Analyzing Art in the Northern Renaissance"
• Explain whether you agree with the interpretation of either Sayre or Koster of Van Eyck's Arnolfini double portrait, identifying the most persuasive part of that interpretation. Describe two symbolic elements of the painting and any other features that stand out to you. Pretend you are having a portrait done of you and a significant other; describe at least four symbolic elements that you might include in the painting, and explain why.
Discussion 3:
• Compare Erasmus and Luther in their attempts to bring about religious reform. Consider the role of the printing press and the actions of German princes in helping Luther to succeed. Next, identify one example of the Protestant Reformation's impact on visual arts. Pretend you are in a company or some other group in which you feel there is corruption. (Use a real incident if you wish). You have the option of remaining and working for reform from within, or of leaving and hoping to start or land something new. Describe your decision and the "dangers" of that decision, and describe the factors that you had to consider.
The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
