Analyze electronic integration, workflow design to cesarean

Assignment:

This assignment builds on the Shoreline Birth Center case introduced earlier in the course.

Shoreline Birth Center recently received public attention due to higher-than-average cesarean section rates. While leadership believes these outcomes are related to Shoreline's role as the region's only high-risk birth center, concerns have emerged regarding how clinical, perioperative, and outcome data are captured, integrated, analyzed, and communicated across electronic systems.

To support safe care delivery and responsible public communication, Shoreline leadership has asked you to evaluate the electronic processes that support perioperative data flow-specifically how information moves across systems, how workflows are designed, and how integration affects decision-making and transparency.

Objective:

Your task is to analyze electronic integration, interoperability, and workflow design related to cesarean section data and perioperative outcomes (including POMR) at Shoreline Birth Center, using EHRGo as your simulated data environment. Need Assignment Help?

You will evaluate how electronic processes support (or hinder):

  • Accurate outcome reporting
  • Patient safety monitoring
  • Leadership decision-making
  • Public communication

Part 1: For this assignment will log back into your EHRGo [webpage] account. Navigate to the assignment titled Applied Data Analytics III Data Visualization [webpage].

While completing the activity, focus on how data related to:

  • Cesarean section rates
  • Perioperative outcomes
  • Mortality and complication indicators is captured, shared, and used across systems.

Important:

You will not submit screenshots or the EHRGo assignment. The activity is used strictly as your data source.

Part 2: Electronic Processes Analysis

1. Integration and Interoperability

  • Describe how perioperative and birth outcome data flows between electronic systems (e.g., EHR, surgical modules, and reporting tools).
  • Explain why interoperability is essential for accurate outcome measurement such as POMR.
  • Identify one potential risk if systems are not well integrated.

2. Workflow Design and System Integration

  • Analyze how workflow design affects the accuracy and timeliness of cesarean and perioperative data.
  • Identify at least one workflow point where breakdowns could lead to incomplete, delayed, or misinterpreted data.
  • Propose one workflow improvement that could enhance data reliability and patient safety monitoring.

3. Organizational Impact and Change

Discuss how improved electronic processes could support:

  • Clinical leadership decision-making
  • Quality and safety initiatives
  • Organizational reputation and transparency

Part 3: Data Visualization as a Communication Tool

Include at least one visual (chart or graph) that supports leadership understanding of:

  • Cesarean section rates or
  • Perioperative outcomes (e.g., POMR trends)

Explain:

  • Why this visualization is appropriate for leadership or public-facing communication
  • How visualization supports electronic workflow efficiency and organizational decision-making

Part 4: Leadership Recommendations

Provide concise, system-focused recommendations for:

  • The Medical Director: related to workflow design and system integration
  • The Public Relations Officer: related to responsible use of electronically generated outcome data

Your recommendations should emphasize electronic processes, not just statistical results.
