Short essay or paragraphs for answering those questions:
1. Of the paradigms listed in the text and our class discussion, which do you think is the strongest and weakest approaches? List the BEST insight of the weakest approach and the WORST failing of the strongest approach.
2. Give one example of a nation being hurt by its geography and one example of a nation being helped by geography. Explain the examples you give.
3. What are some of the barriers to development? What developmental strategy do you recommend for overcoming those barriers?
4. What is the proper relationship between individual and group rights and the cultures in which individuals live? Should a state be able to claim that certain individual and group rights are subordinate to cultural norms?
5. Analyze a current conflict in the world (political, military, or economic), using the terms and concepts from the course. Do not use a situation you have already discussed in the short answers above. You should use this essay as an opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned from the course. That is, your answer should not be something you could have written if you never took this course.
