Management Analysis, 5-6 pages

In this paper you will offer a critical analysis of management theory, styles, and communication.

1. Give your paper a title.

2. Write an introduction.

3. Describe the different management perspectives in 2-3 pages: Talk about scientific/classical management (Taylor, Fayol, and Weber), human relations (the Hawthorne Studies), human resources (Maslow, McGregor, and Likert), and system theories - tie this into leadership styles and communication approaches.

Cite at least twice from your textbook.

Cite at least once from the POSDCORB handout.

Cite at least once from the Managerial Grid handout.

Cite at least twice from two additional academic sources (dictionary.com, answers.com, Wikipedia and similar do not count - blogs do notcount).

(Use a minimum of six citations in this section.)

4. Then interview two managers, people who perform management/communication tasks for at least half of their job.

IMPORTANT: In the works cited list, you must include contact information including the full name, the name of the organization, and either an email or a phone number for each interviewee.

Note: If an interviewee tells you that he or she wishs to remain anonymous, politely tell him or her that you appreciate his or her willingness to help  you with the paper but you will need to find someone else to move forward with the interview because your instructor might contanthim or her to verify interview content.

(a) What types of communication do they do - formal/informal, verbal/nonverbal, upward, downward, horizontal, diagonal? How much

communicating about tasks and procedures do they do? Do they communicate about performance? What rewards and recognition do they give employees, members, or volunteers to help motivate them? What types of communication do they have with other departments or offices within the organization? What types of communication do they have with people outside the organization, such as customers, suppliers, vendors, contractors, and colleagues?

(b) What do they think about what they do and about communication in their organization?

(c) How are their jobs and points of view similar and how are they different?

5. Compare their jobs to the tasks and theories discussed in the Chapters 4 and 5. Do they seem to use scientific/classical theories, human resources, human relations, and/or system theories?

6. Write summary/concluding remarks.

7. Include a works cited page following APA format. Be sure to list all references including your textbook, the POSDCORB handout, the Managerial Grid handout, the two additional sources, and the two interviewees.

8. Include the statement of originality.
