A circumstance that would be an unethical use of power in a relationship would be in a relationship that one person that was in control of the majority of the power in the relationship. This power is found in a dependent relationship one person has a greater need for the other in the relationship and will agree to requests that they normally would not. "The more we depend on one person to satisfy our needs, the more power that person has over us." Beebe, S. A., Beebe, S. J., & Redmond, M. (2008). This type of relationship can affect the ethics of the relationship by giving into a situation that might go against person's morals. It is wrong in any relationship to use power to control the people in the relationship. Relationships should have a mutual balance of power and should not be one sided.
