An object is 0.9 m away from a particular lens. The lens produces an image of that object 30 cm on the other side of the lens.
a. Is this lens converging or diverging?
b. Find the focal length of this lens.
c. Is the image real or virtual?
d. Sketch a ray diagram of this situation.
e. Suddenly, your sneaky lab mate replaces the lens described above with one that has a focal length of the same magnitude but opposite sign. (So the new lens is in the same location, but has switched its converging/diverging type.) Sketch a new ray diagram.
f. Describe any changes in the location, orientation, or type of image produced by the lens. Calculate numerical values when possible.
