An ideal Rankine cycle uses water as its working fluid. The mass flow rate of water through the cycle is 150 kg/s. saturated vapour enters the turbine at 15 MPa and saturated liquid enters the pump at 10 kPa. Cooling water passes through the condenser at a flow rate of 3 000 kg/s.

a) Draw the state points on a T-s diagram.

b) Calculate the power developed by the turbine, in MW.

c) Calculate the rate of heat transfer to the steam passing through the boiler, in MW.

d) Calculate the power consumed by the pump, in MW.

e) Calculate the cycle’s back work ratio.

f) Calculate the cycle’s thermal efficiency.

g) Calculate the temperature rise of the cooling water that flows through the condenser. The cooling water can be treated as an incompressible liquid. There is a negligible drop in pressure of the cooling water as it flows through the condenser.
