Mexicans and Mexican-Americans suffered just like all other Americans during the time of the Great Depression. Apart from suffering from economic problems like unemployment, poverty, and hunger, they also suffered from intense racial discrimination. They were blamed for taking jobs from white Americans, even though they contributed immensely to developing various sectors like agriculture and railroad construction. As is evident from the video, local, state, and federal government officials conducted the massive deportation of hundreds of thousands of people of Mexican origin. They were either forced, coerced, or intimidated into leaving the country; what is more, a lot of those people who were deported were, in fact, American citizens. Families were separated, and many of them were left without a home, work, or community. While all Americans _suffered from the consequences of the Great Depression, Mexicans and Mexican-Americans also suffered from racial discrimination and deportation due to their origin.
