Although not as homogenous as other countries considered

Although not as homogenous as other countries considered nation-states, the United States is considered one of them despite large minority populations. In your own opinion, do you consider the United States a nation-state on par with countries such as Japan? In your response, be sure to provide a definition of a nation-state as well as reasons why (or why not) the United States should continue to carry the label of a nation-state.
