Agro Industrial-Incriminating factors in feeds

There are many anti-nutritional factors present in feeds and fodders which affect the utilization of nutrients. Some of these are toxic if they are consumed in large quantities. Table 10 shows some of the non-conventional feeds with chemical composition, recommended levels and anti-nutritional factors present

Trypsin inhibitors:The feed constituents interfering with the proteolytic enzymes are known as protease inhibitors. Raw soybean and soybean cake are rich in trypsin inhibitors. Roasting, toasting and cooking are effective treatments for the inactivation of these toxic factors.Soybean meal contains toxic and inhibitory substances such as allergenic, goitrogenic, anti-coagulant factors. Protease inhibitors are responsible for the growth retarding property when raw soybeans are fed. The inhibitors are inactivated by heating and hence the preference in use of roasted meal in place of raw soybean meal.

Haemagglutinins:
The common agglutinins likely to affect the animals are ricin presentinca storan,  phaseolotoxin prese n t  i n P h a se o lus  vul ga r is ,  a nd haemagglutinins in soybean. Most of the agglutinins are inactivated by moist cooking in 2% NaOH solution.
