The readings this week reveal a great difference between those who see war as a rational and basic human endeavor and those who see it as irrational and stemming from misunderstandings and frustration. The differences in views results in very different tactics in mitigating or creating peace. After watching Sowell's discussion in a conflict of visions in the Guidance, let's apply it to the pressing contemporary conflicts we face: What caused ISIS to go to war in Iraq and Syria? Is it the same cause that drives Boko Haram in Nigeria to commit the acts it does in pursuit of overthrowing the government of Nigeria?
