After being poked by a blunt object an unknown species

After being poked by a blunt object, an unknown species turns color from gray to green. A flashlight is then introduced as a conditioned stimulus. Would it be a valid demonstration of conditioning if, after the the light was correlated with the poking, the species began to turn orange instead of green when the light was flashed? Why or why not?
