The main result was that voters take advantage of the information on the legislature - executive trade-offs in policy process. When policies of two parties are ideologically different, voters adopt the "check and balance" approach to affect legislature-executive trade-offs to bring about moderate policies. By using this technique, voters are in position to 'moderate' the policy preferences by voting the opposition.
