Problem:
The review of 15 studies revealed that African American LGBTQ youth often turned to chosen families as a response to rejection from their families of origin, particularly due to their sexual or gender identity, as well as HIV-related stigma. Despite these challenges, chosen families served as a crucial protective factor, offering social support, reducing psychological distress, and fostering resilience. Most participants in these studies reported positive experiences with their chosen families, emphasizing the sense of belonging and emotional stability they provided. Additionally, a significant portion of the reviewed studies (12 out of 15) specifically focused on the House/Ball community, highlighting its important role in creating supportive environments for African American LGBTQ youth.
How can these findings be applied to address systemic biases, promote anti-racist and anti-oppressive strategies, and advance social, economic, cultural, and/or environmental justice for the population in the study? What is one ethical consideration of this study and how can you address it? Need Assignment Help?
