Assignment task: In this assignment the student will review picture books for toddler and preschool aged children that address Math and Science concepts and develop activities from them. They will also develop a Math and/or Science activity for a school-aged child.
Find a picture book for children that addresses some of the Math Concepts studied. Take a picture of the book and write a brief review. Based on the information in this picture book, develop 2 math activities for a group of preschool aged children; one activity would be offered in the Block area and the other would be offered the Sensory area. Explain how the activities address the math concepts and how they are linked to the picture book.
Find a picture book for children that addresses some of the Science Concepts studied. Take a picture of the book and write a brief review. Based on the information in this picture book, develop 2 science activities for a group of toddlers; one activity would be offered in the Art area and the other would be offered in the outdoor play area. Explain how the activities address the science concepts and how they are linked to the picture book.
Develop a Math or Science Activity for a child between the ages of 5 to 9, (which does not involve a computer). Explain the math and/or science concepts children of this age would be learning.
For each of the 5 activities include:
- Age of children
- Where you would present this activity (art area, sensory, block, etc.)
- Number of children involved
- Materials required
- Complete details of the activity
- Math and/or science concepts addressed
- Possible extension activities
