Activity on manifestation determination reviews


Problem:

In one paragraph, comment on this: What are you learning about key skills like consultation, data-based decision making, and ethical practice? We just finished an activity on Manifestation Determination Reviews. I was in awe of some of my classmate's personal experiences with MDRs. I learned the two guiding questions:

1. Was the conduct in question caused by or in direct relationship to the child's disability? Need Assignment Help?

2. Was the conduct in question a direct result of the school's failure to implement the IEP or 504?

I also learned about the Big 3 that represent exceptions to MDRs: possession of illegal drugs, carrying a deadly weapon, and inflicting serious bodily harm. What experiences stand out for you so far, and how are they shaping your understanding of the school psychologist's role? We are reading through case law today. Rarely do they name a school psych as the problem in the case. I find myself imagining what it might be like to be in these type of high stakes meetings, and wonder how I would behave, who I would side with, and would I be on the "right" side.
