Active Directory (AD) was designed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and is based on the X.500 suite of protocols. Microsoft first included AD in Windows Server 2000. In this lesson, you learned about AD's four organizing components, which include organizational units (OU), domains, trees and forests.
