1. According to your text, how do we define a "modern human"?  In other words, how do we know when to start calling our ancestors Homo sapiens sapiens.  People have had a hard time with this question in the past, so I'm giving you a hint.  Look on pages 116-117 of the text.

2. Describe in detail the African Middle Stone Age and discuss why this time period is significant.

3. What was found at Blombos Cave and why are these objects significant?

4. What have we learned about social inequality from burials of the Upper Paleolithic? Please give specific examples.

5. What evidence is there of open air Upper Paleolithic sites?  In other words, sites that are not in caves.  Please give a detailed description of the evidence.

1. Beginning with the first spread of Homo erectus out of Africa, there was a continuous gene flow between populations; therefore, Neanderthals are ancestral to modern humans.

2. Neanderthal populations in Europe were replaced by invading populations of modern humans during the period between 40,000 and 30,000 years ago.

3. Neanderthals "disappeared" as a result of substantial interbreeding between populations of Neanderthals and modern humans.

Pick one of these theories and describe it in detail.  Then, using the movie (Becoming Human Episode 3) , document the proof that we have for that theory.  Do you think this is a viable theory?  Why or why not?  You only have to cover one of the theories, so make sure you include lots of detail.  Please make sure you tell us which theory you are discussing.  You can even copy and paste it into the top of your post
