Essay Questions - Religion
You will be given 3 of these on Tuesday and you will write responses to 2 of those 3. You won't get any extra credit for writing all 3.
Prepare yourself to write 2-3 substantive paragraphs for each essay.
1. According to class discussion and the document itself, why did the Catholic Church publish Nostra Aerate? What does it say about Islam in that document?
2. What was the goal of the document, A Common Word, and what was the basic structure of the document's argument? In other words, how specifically did the authors make their case for their intended goal?
3. Compare and contrast Nostra Adak and A Common Word regarding their understandings of the common ground between Christianity and Islam. In other words, how do they agree and in what ways do they disagree?
4. Evaluate the Catholic church's complicated legacy when it comes to race in the United States (based on our course texts/discussion).
5. Rely on Bantam's article to explain why Bantum thinks Christians in particular cannot be post-racial in today's United States.
