Accident can be considered as an incident occurring without intention and results in injury, loss of body part or even death of a human being or a few persons and may be accompanied by loss of property. Accidents might be few in numbers but are significant in our life because of their consequences in terms of effects on human, economy and property.
Although the subject to be dealt with in industrial circumstances or accidents that occur in workplaces yet it is not out of place to mention that accidents take place in everyday life. Road accidents are very common, accidents occur in kitchen, fuel depot, large structures, ships and aero planes etc. Several industrial accidents cause large scale devastation including human life loss and loss of property. History of Technology is replete along with accounts of accidents involving air planes, molten metal ladles, ships, trains, cranes, gas leakages, gas pipeline bursting, and flammable gas catching fire, electric short circuiting causing fire, boiler and pressure vessels bursting. Besides spectacular accidents that are mentioned above normal industrial activity involving single worker or a small group of workers might meet accidents.
