Acc8000 research in accounting practice - what problems

Assignment

Question 1

You work with an accounting firm that offers taxation and advisory services to clients. Recently, your firm introduced a new method of timekeeping for keeping track of the time worked on jobs for individual clients. The new system requires staff to use an ‘app' on their mobile phones. They enter the client's name when they start working on a job, which starts a time recorder. When a job is completed they press the ‘job end' button on the app to stop time recording. The app sends details of the time worked on jobs to the partners at the end of each day. Previously, staff recorded their time on jobs using a spreadsheet. The partners want to find out the staff's opinions about using the new system and any suggestions they have for improvements. They ask you to conduct research to answer the following questions:

- What do staff believe are the advantages of the new system compared to the previous system?
- What problems have staff encountered in using the new system?
- What suggestions do staff have to improve the new system?

Required:
You have been asked to write a research plan for the research. Your plan should include the following issues and provide a justification for the choices that you have made.

- the objective of the research
- why a qualitative approach is appropriate for addressing the research objectives
- the population from which participants will be selected
- how the sample size will be determined
- how the sample of participants will be selected from the population
- how the data will be collected from participants
- examples of three questions that will be posed to participants
- the steps that will be taken to analyse the collected data
- any possible limitations to applying the findings to other accounting firms
