A water treatment plant is processing water at s flow rate of 0.26m^3/s. The hydraulic detention times for the rapid mix tank, flocculation basin and the rectangular sedimentation basin are 10 sec, 30 min, 60 min, respectively. The velocity gradients for the rapid mix and the flocculation tanks are 1000s^-1 and 60:40:20s^-1, respectively. The dynamic viscosity of water is 0.001 Pa-s and the motor efficiency is 80%. Use two parallel treatment trains.

a)- Determine the size and power requirements for rapid mix
b)- Determine the size and power requirements for flocculation basin stages
c)- Determine the size of sedimentation basin and the overflow rate for a water depth of 4 m
d)- What is the percent removal of two particles with settling velocity of 0.001 and 0.002 m/s in the sedimentation basin is the basin is (i) a rectangular tank and (ii) an up flow clarifier?
