A vessel with a frictionless piston contains 1 ft^3 of a gas at 200 psia. The piston is held in position by applying an external force. Calculate the amount of work done if:

a) This external force is released gradually until the volume is doubled in such a way that PV is always constant.

b) This external force is released suddenly to half its initial value.
