A suspected case of ingestion of the organophosphate

A suspected case of ingestion of the organophosphate malathion has entered the emergency room. A STAT pseudo cholinesterase produced a very low result. Prior to the initiation of therapy, an erythrocyte cholinesterase is drawn and sent to a reference laboratory. They report a normal value. How do you explain this disparity? How would you demonstrate your explanation?
