A sled of mass m is given a kick on a frozen pond. The kick imparts to it an initial speed of 1.60 m/s. The coefficient of kinetic friction between sled and ice is 0.110. Use energy considerations to find the distance the sled moves before it stops.

I have seen many solutions of this question and they all are the same, but what I do not understant is that in all solutions they are saying that the net force acting on the sled is the friction force. HOW is that possible?? WHat about the kick ? the kick is a force acting on the sled.
