A power source is giving 12 v to a circuit in the circuit

a power source is giving 12 V to a circuit. In the circuit there is a resistor. Therefore, would the voltage drop 12 V when the charge moves across the resistor making there 0 V in the circuit after the resistor? This does not make sense to me because if there is 0 V in the circuit, what would happen to the charge after it crosses the resistor? Also, are charges scattered all around the circuit so that a flow of current is all over the circuit at all times?
