A power plant receives 92000 lbmhr or coal that burns in 25

A power plant receives 92,000 lbm/hr or coal that burns in 25 percent excess air. For simplicity, assume the coal is pure carbon. The combustion air/exhaust flow pressure drop through the steam generator is a total of 60 in-H2O. Find the power, in units of MW and hp, needed to drive (a) a forced draft fan handling combustion air at 60°F and (b) an induced draft fan with flue gas at 300°F if either is used alone. The fans both have efficiencies of 70 percent. Assume an additional 2 percent leakage inflow in the case of the ID fan and assume negligible change in specific volume across the fans (incompressible flow). [(a) 3880 hp, 2.89 MW; (b) 6170 hp, 4.60 MW]
